DearTrapMary,
My sister friend is truly stuck on stupid. Her man pretends to be all-knowing, but when the rest of us say anything that contadicts his bogusness, he is quick to shun her away from us. He's not hitting her, but he speaks harshly and talks down to her. He tells her what to do, what to say, what to wear, etc. We are afraid for her, being controlled like that. In their new-age afrikan culture, women are seldom heard. To outsiders, She see's nothing wrong with it. For us insiders, she is miserable. What can we do to help open her eyes without getting her into trouble for even hanging out with us?
 Love,
 Unstuck

 Dear Unstuck,
Culture. You said it right there. Its hard to change our cultural beliefs and practices. I'm not sure what you mean by "new age", but to me it seems they are searching. If so, planting little " reality" seeds may help. I used to invite couples to domestic abuse events just to expose them to the truth on abuse and also expose them to resources available...perhaps you and your friends could do that. When you interfere in others relationships uninvited, its not always a positive outcome. Try talking with her when time permits to see if she desires interference. She may :) If not, don't get discouraged. Good luck to ya'll.
